I am Eric Martineau, Owner of the Wisconsin Defensive Firearms Training and, instructor at the Firearms Academy of Wisconsin. I am a staff instructor with the Massad Ayoob Group, as well as an NRA instructor. I moved to Wisconsin in 2021 after finishing my bachelor’s degree in Recreation Resource Management at Utah State University with a Minor in Criminal Justice.
I got involved teaching defensive firearm courses after going through an armed robbery in Salt Lake City and understanding that the standard 2.5 hour concealed carry course that I had previously while being very informative, had not prepared me for the fundamental challenges of carrying a firearm daily.
The morning after my experience, I started to piece together a self-analysis of what had gone wrong and concluded that my previous experiences had little to no reference of what reality had to bear. And that many shooting instructors had only been trained by marketing companies that teach outdated techniques.
My experience could have been improved if I had known how to understand elements of how to successfully conceal a handgun, how to select a firearm for EDC, what holsters were good, how to find a competent instructor so that I would be able to get anatomically significant hits if needed.
